Consensus building has been at the heart of my leadership and has shaped my belief that effective policy comes from collaboration, not party politics. I believe progress happens when we stop focusing on what divides us and start building on what unites us.

I’m Mary Shannon, a small business owner, community leader and dedicated advocate for working families. I earned my Master’s Degree in public policy from George Mason University and spent part of my career as a Policy Analyst at Navy Federal Credit Union, where I worked on behalf of military families, veterans and consumers.

Today, I work with Maine credit unions to develop leaders, strengthen organizations, and build stronger communities across our state. I am also
honored to serve as Chair of the Scarborough School Board, a position to which I have been elected twice by Scarborough voters. In that role, I focus on thoughtful leadership, fiscal responsibility and ensuring every student has the opportunity to succeed.

Throughout my career, I have brought people together to solve complex challenges, build consensus and find practical solutions that reflect
shared values and common goals. Whether working in public policy, community
leadership or organizational development, I have learned that the best outcomes come from listening carefully, respecting different perspectives and working collaboratively.

My husband and I are proud to call Scarborough home. I believe in bringing people together, solving problems collaboratively and always putting our community first. I’m committed to serving with integrity, listening to residents
and delivering practical solutions that make a positive difference for families and businesses alike.
